The film begins at the College’s fish farm, where students took
part in netting ponds and learning the foundations of fish
husbandry, before progressing to real-world experiences at
Embryo’s Baston site.
Neil Sampson, Land and Wildlife Technician at Shuttleworth
College, said:
“It’s real industry experience. They’re out there getting wet,
getting cold and fully involved in the work. The students
absolutely love it and don’t stop talking about the experience
for weeks afterwards.”
“Without partners like Embryo, they simply wouldn’t get
these opportunities as regularly. It’s been fantastic to see the
partnership grow over the past five years, and long may it
continue.”
The partnership forms part of Shuttleworth College’s ongoing
work with Embryo Angling, part of the wider Korda Group,
which includes providing a growing-on facility for fish supplied
to the Shuttleworth Fish Farm and giving students direct access
to industry expertise.
Matt Pettitt, Director of Embryo Angling Habitats, said: “This
project is something we are very proud of, creating meaningful
real-world opportunities for education and engagement. Working
with Shuttleworth College is a great example of how we can support
both the environment and future careers within the industry.”
The film concludes by showcasing the finished fishery and what
it offers to visiting anglers, demonstrating the full journey
from fish rearing through to stocking and sustainable fishery
management.
