Well, it all started on the 9 t h o f J a n ua r y wh e n my f ri e n d a n d
I p lanned a 48-hour sessio n o n I s la n d L a ke at Fu rz e b ray L a ke s
i n South Molton! That week I wa s co un t i n g d ow n t h e d ays a n d
p reparing my fishing gear ! T h e 1 6 t h o f J a n ua ry c o u l d n’ t h ave
c o me around any quicker. We le f t B u d e a t th e c ra c k o f d aw n a n d
were on the way to Furzeb ray L ake s! We arr ive d a t Fu r z e b ray
a t 7:30am and had a walk aro u n d t h e ve n ue . I s l a n d L ake i t s e l f
i s only three acres with te n sw i ms o n t he l a ke ! T h e re a re a
m aximum of seven anglers o n t he l ake at a t i m e , s o t h e re a re
g o od swim options!
Around the lake you have wh i te ma rke r p o s t s to yo u r l e f t ,
a n d to your right are your f i s h i n g b o u n da r i e s . I d e ci d e d to g o
i n the Inlet swim because t h ere we re si g n s o f c a rp a ro u n d t h e
a rea and there’s an island. A s we a ll k n ow, c a rp l i ke sw i m m i n g
a round islands. I had three c a s ts w i th my n e w Ko d ex K X- i c ar p
ro ds with a bare lead towa rd s t he i s l an d a n d fo u n d a c ra c k i n g
fe ature – a gravel bar – so I d ec i d e d to p l ac e my ri gh t ro d o f f t h e
