like pissing in the wind, especially as I now wanted one from the granite
section my boat was actually moored on. The next season, I spent my limited
time on the river in pursuit of that goal, but only had shed loads of snotty
bream… Yuk! The only thing of note was when I had a social with Nikk on
the section just down from the weir. I had moored my boat up on an old
platform on the next swim down and cast a couple of rods out – one on
a bush downstream and one down the track for a barbel. That rod ripped
off around midnight, and soon after, I had a barbel in the net. It was like
a baseball bat, really long and skinny but went 13lb 12oz, a bloody good
summer weight, and we wondered what else was in the section.
Back to the carp fishing… I did have one chance at the end of the season…
I think… After some strong winds, I noticed that two trees had fallen near an
outlet. One was completely covering the swim from the bank, and the other
was horizontal in the water next to it. After some trimming the tree in the
water, I managed to ‘dock’ the boat against a big branch running perpendicular
