OCTOBER'S GIFT
FROM THE WATER
It was until October that the lake blessed me with one of its bigguns. I d be
on pest control but was still getting bites, and then I did a weekend in Boat
House Point, a good autumn area and one that had been doing the odd bite.
With so many areas in that peg to put a rod, I settled on three nice spots
spread over the bay. 48 hours in, and I was pondering a move. A small one
showed to my left and kept me there luckily.
The following morning, I had all the gear on the barrow ready to go home
with my tail between my legs, and the middle rod absolutely melted off!!
Unpacking my waders with the fish on and off, I went into the pond . I
knew this one was a better fish right from the off, slowly plodding across the
swim, not letting me gain an inch .. Eventually, though, she did, and after
a few scary moments at the net, she was mine! Lumpys Mate A classic
welly-shaped mirror, deep and leathery with a thick wrist and massive
heart-shaped paddle . And at mid-forty, she was one hell of a blank saver!
