FROM THE WATER
It was only when I got her within a few metres of the bank that she suddenly
pulled away like a train. She went straight through all the marginal weed
and buried herself. At this point I honestly thought I wasn t going to be able
to land her by myself. After a few minutes she eventually came free from the
weed and lifted her head enough for me to get the net cord underneath her.
As soon as I looked in the net I knew I had a massive fish. I still wasn t fully
with it after being woken up, so I rolled the net up, put it into the sling and
carried this absolute brute back to my cradle.
I left her in the sling and removed the net from underneath her. I started
applying carp care to all of her sores and, while I was doing it, I kept looking
at her thinking to myself, I recognise you! I was shaking with adrenaline
by this point. I zipped up the sling and hooked it onto the scales. They went
just under 58lb. My wet sling weighs a tiny bit over 6lb, which meant the
fish weighed a whopping 51lb 4oz. And this wasn t just any fish. It was the
one and only Circle Scale. I knew she had previously been caught at 46lb, so
to finally have her in my arms at 51lb 4oz was a pretty special feeling.
