BIG CARP / ON THE WATER
LATE AUTUMN STRATEGY
ONTO A WINNER
FROM THE WATER
In the autumn I like to scale down on my bait, reverting to naturals where
allowed, usually maggots into the softer areas. Small piles of red maggots
in the right areas are irresistible to carp, with a balanced bait over the
top, you re onto a winner. Where there are nuisance fish present, I might
introduce some bigger items such as chop, crumb or sweetcorn, but I m
happy to fish a pure maggot approach where I can get away with it. Rig
wise, I still go in with my usual bits, size 4 hooks, big shrink tube kickers
and big leads, the usual stuff, just more thought goes into baiting and areas
at this time of year.
You can see the small split shot on the tag end of the rig, I just think this
gives the shot more movement, rather than fixing it directly onto the rig
This might just be a 1% advantage, but when the carp picks the rig up, that
shot has a tiny bit of movement which I like .
