FIELD NOTES
Through the day, it was pretty quiet on the fish front, and the wind and
rain was blowing a gale. This resulted in me spending a lot of time in the
bivvy, contemplating over the lost fish. The big questions lingering over me
were, What was that one that got away? and What did I do wrong?
Going into the second night with confidence high, I was determined to
get revenge. The traps were set, the swim was hot, and I was ready. It
goes without saying that it wasn t long before the wait was over and bite
o clock arrived. Again, like clockwork, my sirens once again sang away with
a beauty of a mirror with a big pot belly and amazing scale pattern, and
a really old looking fish, which was a real pleasure to handle, just like the
rest, was sulking in my net.
One thing I did notice from both captures is while each fish was being
handled, they would be was passing my red fish mix all over the mat,
suggesting that they were loving the bait. I literally couldn t get enough in
the lake.
So four bites in, and I was contemplating leaving. I d landed two, and I was
happy. My body was emotionally and physically drained after the events
over the last two days. While on the phone to a friend, he convinced me
to do one more night (it didn t take much), so I set my stall up again to
try and get the hat trick. Little did I know what was about to happen I
sat back and enjoyed a relaxed evening chewing the fat with my neighbour
until the sun went down.
