FIELD NOTES
God, I hate packing up, but at least everything was dry!
With everything packed away almost, anyway with just the rods out,
I noted a lovely flat spot pretty much right over my baited area, which
just had to be fish feeding as it slicked up. After some ten to fifteen
minutes or so, I suddenly received a single bleep from my left hand
rod, and the bobbin slowly but very deliberately dropped. Finally my
perseverance had paid off, as I was into what felt like a decent fish that
initially took some line but then just plodded and hung deep as most
decent fish tend to do.
However, after things had been going well and the fish was coming to
steady pressure, disaster struck, as from nowhere it suddenly dived deep
into weed, and I was now well and truly weeded up with no give either
way! I put the rod down and slackened off, hoping that my prize would
swim out, but after half an hour or so, it was still deadlock, so it was a
quick call to my mate Mikee who got hold of Paul who then came over
with the boat.
Once he was over the fish, she came out of where I couldn t move her
very easily, and after a little bit more of a tussle, she was in the net. She
certainly looked a decent fish, but to be honest, I didn t really care, as I
was just glad to have got the pick-up, but effort always equals reward in
my book, and at 40lb 1oz of real warrior carp, I was over the moon, as it
was the last fish of the season and yet another 40 for me falling for the
ever-consistent Mainline Baits.
The winning combo of my ever-faithful stiff hinged rig with size 6
JPrecision super sharp Wide Gape baited with my Mainline Baits special
did the business yet again.
Big thanks to Mikee for just being there to share the moment thanks,
kid! And of course Paul Ward for creating the phenomenon that is
Grenville, The Lake of Dreams! This isn t the biggest carp I ve ever
caught, but I have to say it is without doubt one of the most significant
and emotional captures I ve had...
