FIELD NOTES
After turning up at the park on Friday 3rd May a bit later in the day than I
would have liked, and not seeing much happening after walking the lake a
few times, I decided on my favoured swim and set up for the night. It wasn't
until the second day that a fish showed itself two rod lengths out and to the
right of some nasty snags. I cast a rod to it, and within five minutes of the
rod being put down and me sitting back down, it ripped off, resulting in this
lovely PB of 23lb 10oz, caught using a German rig with AT Components size
8 Curve Shank, and the new Red Fishmeal test bait, snowman style with
half a yellow 12mm Berryblast pop-up.
The following weekend, I decided to head down to the lake again in pursuit
of my UK 30lb target. Nothing happened again until the second night. I
went for a 72-hour session this time for only one fish, but two PBs within
ten days so far! This park lake wildie went 26lb 14oz and is a known fish,
last coming out at around 24lb six weeks ago. I tamed the beast using the
using new Carpy Co test baits in 16mm tipped with a White Pineapple Blast
pop-up, which has been soaking in Sherbet Korda Goo, which turned it
yellow, along with about 25 chopped and whole boilies on the spot with a
mesh bag of Carpy Co pellets and some pink Himalayan rock salt.
Some people say it's too much trouble, but a wise friend once told me
nothing is too much trouble for carp fishing if you want to catch. Sometimes
the little things make the biggest difference.
The fish below in the water is 23lb 10oz, and the one below that is my
current PB of 26lb 14oz.
