FIELD NOTES
My first session down there, I did a day session with the girlfriend on a
windy Saturday, managed four fish up to 18lb and left there pretty happy
to be honest after managing four fish in a day session in a lake that holds
maybe 30 to 40 carp. The following weekend, I gave the fishing a rest, had
a weekend to myself and got some much-needed sleep that I needed with
all this fishing and work. The following weekend on Saturday 6th April, I
decided to do a few hours on the private lake in the afternoon, and little did
I know it would be an afternoon I won t forget for a long time.
During most of afternoon, there was not even a beep, but in the last hour,
I got both of my rods and put one on my old baited spots down the margin
and the other one on a little gravel spot on the other side margins. I was
fishing both rods on a German rig using a size 6 Viper Curve Shank with a
DNA Baits Milky Malt Wafter with about ten SLK boilies over each rod, and
within about 15 minutes, the first rod was off with a 20lb common. Luckily
I had the girlfriend there to do the photos, so I got the pictures done really
quickly and got the rod back down my right hand margin.
Unfortunately, that rod went quiet, and with only ten minutes left, I thought
it would never happen and I d still be chasing for my first 30.
