CONNOR SMITH
FIELD NOTES
My heart dropped and the nerves really kicked in now. I loosened the
clutch up a considerable amount. I did not want the hook to pull on this
fish because I might never get the chance to catch it again, and there's not
a chance anyone would believe me if I told them I lost it at the net. The
fight went on with my loose clutch, but the fish was beaten by now, and
it wasn't too hard to guide this old warrior over the net cord.
In it went. I couldn't believe it! I'd caught the big Lin in under ten
sessions! I unhooked the fish and got him in the sling to have a little rest.
I needed one too. The adrenaline was crazy, and first thing I did was call
my brother-in-law to come have a look and take a few pics for me. No
answer I thought, you're going too have to miss out on this one, mate,
and I got straight on the phone to my girlfriend. She answered the phone,
and before she could even say anything, I said, Babe, I've got the Big
Lin! She thought I was joking and told me to shut up! I said, No, really,
I've got the big Lin in the net! She was as gobsmacked as me.
My missus ain't no angler, but she knows a fair bit and knows what's
what, as all I do is talk about carp fishing 24/7, as she always reminds me.
