FIELD NOTES
With only four or five on by this point, I decided to leave matey boy to it
whilst I headed down the other end to a swim called Winter s Point, leaving
everyone with plenty of water. I d seen a few fish roll out towards the corner
of a large island at a comfortable range that this swim controlled, and after
leading about for a little while off the corner of the island, I found an area
where I wanted to anchor a couple of traps.
It was clean not solid, but more then presentable, which the pronged lead
confirmed after a couple of drags across it not a bad depth for the lake at
5.5ft deep either, where the swans wouldn t be able to get at me or my bait.
From doing my laps with the dog and just generally watching and speaking
to other anglers fishing it, it seemed the norm was to jump in the boat, find
a hard spot, tip a bucket of bait on it and sit back. So instead, I decided to
stay on the bank and use a Spomb to put my bait out.
